Charles Gillingham [sic] was born in 1869, Bridgwater, Somerset, England. Many brickmakers came with the Prices, Manchips, Billings and others from Bridgwater to work in the clay industry in Toronto’s East End. Charles Gillingham had been a brickmaker working for John Price while he lived with his widowed mother at 33 Austin Avenue. His sister Adelaide married Charles Jennings and lived nearby on Dagmar. After this incident reported in the newspaper, Charles Gillingham was committed to 999 Queen Street West where he spent the rest of his life.
